Send multiple! for a single face portrait, I love to have five photos to look at. This allows me to select the one with the best lighting, details, or layout to get you the best product.

You cannot have too much detail in a reference photo. Film photos are always best for getting crisp details. A lot of digital photos degrade as you send them through text, email, or messaging apps. I may ask you to send your reference photos in a particular way to preserve the details for your final portrait.
